Hi, I’m Catherine Lockhart—founder of Shelter Skin. Skincare and makeup have always been my favorite things. I started my journey in the beauty industry as a Product Consultant at Sephora while I was in college and after a few years working in finance post college, I became a beauty content creator. I was surrounded by an endless stream of new products and of course, I wanted to try everything. But in parallel, I was also on a wellness journey of my own, trying to heal my PCOS. As I dug deeper, I began to realize a startling truth: many of the products we use daily contain endocrine disruptors, synthetic fillers, and toxic chemicals that can impact our overall well-being.

This discovery changed everything for me. I started reading labels more closely and questioning the ingredients in my routine. It didn’t make sense that something we apply to our bodies—day in and day out—could include elements that potentially do more harm than good. Determined to find a better way, I turned my kitchen and started making body butters with natural ingredients. I researched traditional, time-honored ingredients, experimented with simple formulations, and fell in love with the purity and richness of grass-fed beef tallow. It’s an ingredient cherished for its nutrient density, skin compatibility, and ability to deliver deep, lasting moisture without unnecessary additives.

Over the course of two years, I tested more than 30 different formulas, fine-tuning textures, scents, and absorbency until I created something I truly believed in. The result is Shelter Skin—luxuriously simple, free from endocrine disruptors, toxins, and fillers, and proudly made in the USA.
