How do I store my jar?
We recommend storing your jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Because our body butter is made only with natural ingredients, the texture may soften in warmer environments and firm up in cooler temperatures.
What if my jar softens or melts in transit?
Because this formula is completely natural, softening can happen during warm-weather shipping. If your jar arrives warm or softened, place it in the fridge for 30 minutes, then let it return to room temperature before use.
A change in texture does not affect the quality of the product.
Is your tallow dry or wet rendered?
Our tallow is dry rendered and double filtered for maximum purity and quality. Dry rendering uses low, controlled heat without added water, helping preserve the integrity of the tallow and create a cleaner, more stable final product.
What does Deep End smell like?
Deep End smells warm, creamy, and tropical. Coconut is the most noticeable note, softened by ylang-ylang and grounded with sandalwood and tonka bean.
It has a subtle vintage sunscreen-like quality, but feels more elevated than sweet or beachy. Think warm skin, soft coconut, and a smooth woody finish.
What does it feel like?
The texture is best compared to a soft, whipped butter. It melts easily into the skin on contact and leaves skin feeling nourished, smooth, and hydrated.
Because it’s an ambient formula, the texture may feel softer in warmer temperatures and firmer in cooler ones.
Is it greasy?
Tallow closely resembles the skin’s natural moisture barrier, allowing it to absorb well when used in the right amount. Start with a small amount and build as desired. Applied lightly, it will fully absorb. Applied more generously, it can leave a dewy, glazed finish on the skin.
*Note that if you use a lot on your arms, you may see excess in your elbow crease. This is entirely normal and you can easily rub the excess into your skin.
Why pure botanicals instead of “natural fragrance”?
“Natural fragrance” is an unregulated term that can refer to a blend of aromatic compounds, often without full ingredient transparency.
At Shelter, we formulate with pure botanicals (also known as essential oils) and list them transparently. Each botanical is selected for scent, skin compatibility, and overall formula balance. This allows us to create a natural scent profile without synthetic fragrance or undisclosed fragrance blends.
We also prioritize organic sourcing and specific extraction methods, including steam-distilled and cold-pressed oils, depending on what is most stable and appropriate for the skin.
Will the scent last all day?
Deep End is designed to wear close to the skin. Because we use pure botanicals at a low scent load, the scent will be softer and more subtle than a conventional fragranced body product.

Can I use the body butter and body oil together?
Absolutely! We recommend using the body butter at night for deep nourishment and repair overnight, and the body oil during the day for lightweight, breathable hydration.

Can I use this on my face?
While formulated for the body, it can be used on the face depending on your skin type. Tallow is rich in fatty acids and may be comedogenic for some, so we recommend patch testing or limiting use to the body if you are acne-prone.
How long does a jar last?
When stored properly, your jar will last up to 6 months. Tallow is naturally stable, but we recommend avoiding the introduction of water or moisture into the jar to maintain quality.
